Hey There! I’m Joy Jewell, a wife, mom to three, a book lover, coffee lover and a love of all things techy! In February of 2018 I became a Weight Watchers member and I’m loving my WW journey! I’m sure you’ll hear a little bit about everything that I love here on the blog but mostly about Usborne and Kane Miller Books!

A Little More about me and why I became an Usborne Books & More Consultant

What inspired you to start?

My husband Jared and I had a 3.5 year old daughter and a 5 month old son and I had a deep desire to stay home with my children.  I attended my friend’s Usborne Books & More Facebook party and fell in love with these books. I decided to buy the starter kit and see what happens. Seven months later I promoted to team leader, and as my team grew I saw that UBAM would provide the opportunity work at home with my small children who are now 8, 5  and 2. I love helping others start their own business if you would like more information please contact me.

What is your favorite product/book?

That is the hardest question! There are more than 1,800 to choose from, but I’ll share three of our favorites.

I love teaching each of my children to read and building their reading muscles with the My First Reading Library. This is a fun collection of 50 books for children learning to read. The books begin with very simple words for a child in a shared reading format. The parent will read one page of the book and the child reads the next page. The books progress until the child is reading a book independently. I can’t speak highly enough about this set of books it’s a “must-have” in all homes with young children.

Potty Training can be a nightmare for some parents, especially the #2 part! Ha!  “Lift-the-Flap Very First Questions and Answers: What is Poop?” was our go-to book this winter while potty training out two-year-old. This book is aimed at preschoolers as a  funny storybook style non-fiction book that answers all their questions about poop! Where does it go? Who poops? What happens to poop? And so many more!

Once your child learns to read the transition from “learn to read” books to chapter books can be challenging. We love the stories of Billie B Brown and Hey Jack in their respective collections of beginner chapter books. These books are only 40 pages long and they are written in an easy to read font with fun illustrations. Billie and Jack teach positive message that 4-7-year-olds can relate to. For my Daughter’s 6th birthday she requested a Billie B Birthday party based on the “Midnight Feast” book. Great memories made and lessons learned reading these aloud at a young age and then reading them again on their own as they become independent readers.

What is your short and long-term goal for your business?

Besides growing my home library, my favorite part of this business is empowering others. My goal is to help 10 people start their own book business in the next 6 months. I also plan on becoming a Million Dollar sales team by 2020, which allows us to put more books in the hands of children all over the country. Finally, I want to grow my business by 200% in the next 5 years so I can travel with my family and build a new custom home.
